Closter is a beautiful town in Bergen County near the northwest part of New York City and used to have spread out farms and estates but is now a suburban town. It is adjacent to the Bergen County municipalities of Harrington Park, Alpine, Emerson, Harworth, and Demarest. Closter is easily accessible through Palisades Interstate Parkway, Route 9, and County Routes 501, 502, and 505. It has a Green Team that works toward sustaining the community with a community farm and a preserved farm financed by the State Agricultural Development Committee and the County of Bergen.

 

The climate in Closter is warm. It has several luxurious restaurants, shopping centers, and parks where people can hang out and have fun, and community annual events regularly bring people together. Closter is a quiet area with lots of parks and walkability to grocery stores and restaurants. 

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Closter residents have several options to choose from when it comes to entertainment and shopping. Closter Plaza is a shopping center with 36 establishments for health and wellness, shopping, dining, and entertainment. It’s where you will find Whole Foods and other national retailers. The Shade Store is a great place to find custom blinds and shades for your home.

 

Locale Cafe and Bar has a gorgeous outdoor patio where you can enjoy their seared duck breast or pan-seared scallops. Tombolino Ristorante serves authentic Italian dishes, but Friday is the best night to go. On Fridays, they have lobster dinners with a special menu that may include a whole broiled lobster and Maine lobster ravioli.

 

The Sear House is a historical landmark with stunning architecture to match its stunning cuisine. Their Tuscan seafood stew is a mix of seafood over linguine and a tomato broth. They are also famous for their steaks, aged in-house. Their Porterhouse Steak for Two is a fabulous option for a romantic evening.

 

At The Hill, you can enjoy dishes prepared by Michelin star Chef Ben Pollinger. The Moroccan-style lamb tagine is incredible, but the chocolate strawberry cake is even better.

 

Fine wines are easy to find, thanks to the wineries in Closter. Gary’s Wine and Marketplace has a large selection of seltzers, spirits, and, of course, wine. Their grocery includes a deli with gourmet meats, fresh bread, and produce. The Barrel & Brew Craft Bar is a lively gastropub where you can enjoy a craft brew with your jibaro cheesesteak, made with filet mignon.

 

There are plenty of high-end boutiques in Closter, such as Lululemon and Bergio designer jewelry. 

Things to Do

Closter Nature Center has 136 acres of streams to canoe down, wetlands to explore, and trails to hike. The Closter Golf Center was voted one of the Top 100 Driving Ranges in America. It has 100 all-weather, heated practice booths on two levels. It also has a miniature golf course, an outdoor go-kart, and a gastropub.
